The great baseball movie Field of Dreams is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year and probably one of the more memorable scenes in the film is when Terrance Mann, played by the great James Earl Jones told the Kevin Costner character Ray Kinsella that “America had rolled by like an army of steamrollers…been erased like a black board rebuilt and erased again…but baseball had marked the time.”

This game has endured wars and national tragedy. Recently a group of history buffs gathered for the National 19th Century Baseball Festival in Gettysburg. Their throwback games were set on a fields that take us back to the roots of the game, when it was following in the footsteps of a new nation.
