The Bay City Independents were blessed yesterday to play base ball in the city which saw the birth of our National Game in our own state, Detroit. Even greater we were fortunate enough to play on the field that has been home to our beloved Tigers since their inception. It has been Bennett Park, Navin Field, Briggs Stadium, and finally Tiger Stadium.
Base Ball has been played there since 1896, and from the shadow of the lumber yard, which has been active there before Ty Cobb‘s days, and in front of the silent sentinel that is the center field flag pole we were proud to take the field. Bay City came away with the win against our friends from Wyandotte, for the first time in the last four tries, but even more we came away with a since of humility for our small moment to stand in the footprints of giants.
We thank Preacher, the Stars, and most importantly The Navin Field’s Ground Crew for helping us make this one of our greatest experiences ever. Huzzah!
