Kent B. B. C. Vs. Independents

Kents 9, Bay City 6 - Carroll Park, Bay City
The picture perfect weather gave no portent to what the day would hold for the hometown nine. The match began, at beautiful Carroll Park, with a new twist for the Bay Citys. They actually won the coin toss, and chose to defer to the visitors from Kent County.
The Independents held the Kents scoreless for four innings due to fine fielding and weary striking from the travelers from Grand Rapids way. The Bay Citys however found striking form right away and tallied two aces in the first innings. The aces scored in large part to agressive base running on the part of "Tanner" LeRoux and "Stats" Johnson, and the fine striking of "Shoeless" Jeff Dinauer and "Doc" Garcia, each of whom drove in an ace.
In the second innings the valiant Bay City nine would ring the tally bell three more times on the legs of Ray " The Banker" Banister, "Wonderboy" Loiselle, and Branden "The Rope" Revette. The rally would end with two men left on base.
The Independents were whitewashed in the third innings, and were dearly robbed in the fourth. "Shoeless" led off the fourth with a fine single, and was followed by the hard hitting "Doc" Garcia. True to his form "Doc" hitting a towering howitzer that, much to the club's dismay, scraped a tree-top on it's way over the fence at Carroll Park. That small scrape was enough to cut the onion's flight short and send it soaring to the ground. The blast, that would have assuredly driven "Shoeless" home, and put "Doc" solidly on second sack with no hands lost, was instead bottled up by Charles "Wedded" Bliss. The excellent right fielder of the Kents hopped the fence in full stride and caught the spiralling spheriod on one bound, and dashed the Bay City hopes. The next two strikers would go in order, and all thoughts of aces evaporated in the sweltering heat of the day.
After that play the Kents' bats came to life, and they tallied one ace in the 5th innings, and two aces in the 6th to narrow the Bay City advantage to 5-3.
The Bay City bats though had been wilting in the summer sun, and had tallied no aces since their rally in the second innings. Their defense seemed to return to form in the 7th innings though, when they skunked the Kents again. Things truly seemed to be turning around when the Independents tallied an ace in the seventh innings thanks to the fine striking of Dan "Pudge" Decuf and Fred "Twinkle-Toes" Brissette.
The Bay City resurgence turned out to be nothing more then a mirage. In the top of the 8th innings the Kents gathered themselves together and blew the doors off of the old barn, and drove all the Bay City horses out to pasture. The Kents would power their way to 6 aces in the innings and took the lead in the contest at 9-6.
The Bay Citys would shut the door on the Kents in the ninth, but they could not regain their momentum and were locked out by the Kents in the 8th and 9th innings.
The two clubs came together and shared many congratulations for fine play and fine dining fare. Better luck next year to the hometown nine, because this season held no luck against the Kents for them.
