vs. La-de-dahs
Independents vs. La-de-dahs
Bay City 20, Greenfield Village 15

The boys from Bay City were greeted with the greatest of affection while visiting the La-de-dahs of Greenfield Village. The village gentlemen, clad in crimson and cream, led the Independents through the hamlet in a parade held in their honor. Despite the fact that the Bay Citys had ventured several days ride from their hometown for the match, they were met with many hurrahs along the parade route from spectators who were championing their cause, and made them feel right at home.

The match led off with the Bay Citys winning the coin toss, and choosing to strike first. It proved to be a wise decision, as the home town gentlemen struck gold in the first innings. The first five strikers in the Bay City nine reached base safely before nary a hand was lost, and when the innings ended the Independents found themselves up by 4 aces.

Not to be outdone the La-de-dahs struck for 4 tallies as well in their half of the first innings. The Bay Citys hosts were led by the fine striking of their captain Mike "Oxbow" Ossy and their fine fielding center fielder, Big Red.

In their half of the second innings the Independents took the lead again thanks to some deep striking by Ray "The Banker" Banister, who was able to secure three bases on just one strike, Dan "Pudge" Decuf, and Brian "Hooks" Freehling. When the rally was over the score now stood 6-4.

The La-de-dahs would not be put down quietly, as they too sent many howitzers to the long field and took a 7-6 lead heading into the third innings.

The Bay Citys would acquit themselves in the top of the third innings and re-discovered the use of their lumber. Thanks in large part to Sean "Tanner" LeRoux, Trevor "Big Wood" David, and Alan "Kid" Garcia, the hometown boys scored three runs before the first hand was lost. Then Fred "Twinkle-Toe" Brissette would spark a two hands down rally and score from second sack on a fine strike to the long field by Dan "Pudge" Decuf. After white-washing the La-de-dahs in the third innings the score now stood at 10-7.

After their third innings rally, the Bay Citys would fall upon hard times and only tallied two aces in the following 4 innings. The La-de-dahs would strike for four aces in as many innings and now trailed the Independents by a lone run at 12-11.

The Independents would attempt to widen the gap in the eighth innings when Justin "Doc" Garcia opened the inning with a howitzer shot over the railroad tracks in right field. If the gentlemen from Greenfield Village want that ball back they will undoubtedly have to procure the services of a mermaid, as it most assuredly landed in the oxbow lake beyond the tracks. Doc's loud strike aroused the sleeping giants, that are the Indpendents, and the Bay Citys placed four more aces on the board. The La-de-dahs would not be done away with easily, as they too struck for four aces and made the game a tight scratch again. Heading into the ninth innings the score now stood Bay City 16 and the Villagers 15.

In their last opportunity to strike the Bay Citys put the game out of doubt and into the victory column by finding 4 more aces in their bag of tricks. The La-de-dahs had no more vim left, and though they showed a great deal of sand in their play in their half of the ninth innings, they failed to score and finished the match skunked.

After a well played match the game ball was awarded to the Bay Citys, and they thanked their hosts for the fine spirited contest. Perhaps this match will set the Independents back on the right path.
