Bay City Independents offer all-American baseball entertainment on Fourth of July weekend

BAY CITY — On a weekend to celebrate America’s history, it wouldn’t be a bash without baseball.

The Bay City Independents are hosting a pair of old-time baseball games Saturday and Sunday at Bay City’s Carroll Park as part of the Fourth of July celebration.

The Independents take on the Wyandotte Stars at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 6 then host the Union Baseball Club of Dexter at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 7.

“Both events are free of charge, so bring your blankets and picnic supplies and enjoy our nation’s birthday weekend by enjoying our national pastime in historic style,” Independents coach Jayme Johnson said.

The Independents are a vintage baseball team that plays in the style of the 1860s, complete with old-time uniforms, heavy wooden bats, leather balls and no mitts.
